YO GEORGIANS! :)

No, but neither of those are in my town and is pretty much have to either pass TSC to get there, or drive further than TSC would be.
This may not even need to be said but if you need to pick up a bulb also be sure to either wait and get the brooder lamp two pack at TSC or whatever bulb you get allow it to burn for 45 min to an hour to get the teflon coating burned off before putting it over your chickens.

Nope I've never heard that. Never had an issue with it..? What's it supposed to do to them?

Oh!! You're saying if it's NOT a brooder-specific lamp. Yes I always use the heat-intended bulb.

TSC has the best price on those, always.
They put a "rough service" coating on the bulbs which i believe is teflon that is intended to make the bulb more durable against being dropped (i.e. shoved in a tool box or thrown in the back of a work truck) and when this coating is burned off it is toxic to the chicks. Granted if you brood in a chicken wire brooder you may never see the effect but in a situation like my new brooder it would be fatal. As long as you use "Brooder Lamps" and not "Heat Lamps" then it should never be an issue anyways. I've made a habit of turning on all of the bulbs anyways now as a precaution. In previous years during chick days i had customers that would purchase the heat lamps saying "I only need one bulb not two." and then would return a day or so later saying all of their chicks had just died suddenly in the brooder.

I just got 7 barred rock chicks for a friend of mine. It is their favorite breed of all the chickens.

Yes. I have one BR hen that lays more eggs than anything I've had. She's a machine! So these will be (well, already are except she doesn't let them down from the roost much, lol) her flock mates. :)

And yes, I've checked my local feed store and have no interest in paying $20 for a heat lamp when I can get them for less than $10 elsewhere

Walmart in Rockmart has them. The lamps are on the same isle as the tools and the bulbs are on the bulb isle but sometimes they will have some by the lamps. I think mine was $7 or $8. I have found the heat lamp bulbs are too hot and I use the 100w bulb for the first few weeks and a 60w bulb after that. Mine are in the house though.
