YO GEORGIANS! :)

How many of y'all use chain link kennels for runs, and what do you put over them? Like, I know a tarp but do you actually enclose the top with anything or leave it open? I want to move my barred rocks to the kennel now that they're big enough but for some reason am hesitant

Whatever route you choose to go don't spend more than $99.99. That's how much the actual covers are for a 10x10 kennel and they work great. I used Welded Wire fencing to keep the hawks and owls out and it only cost around $69.00.

Carcar, I am glad she will go to a good home! Sorry she wasn't an olive egger!

Robo, what would you think if we do an egg exchange at your farm when we meet? You know, like a cookie exchange. We could all bring like two dozen hatching eggs, open the cartons and each would get however many divided by how many people there are) so you take home two dozen eggs from everyone! (Like if there are 12 people who come and they each bring 2 dozen hatching eggs, you would get 2 from every person) That would be so fun! We could mark (to the best of our ability) what the eggs are. What does everyone think?

So, I am looking for some more Lavender Ameraucanas. Anybody have extras or eggs? Kevin is an unreliable source at this time.

I love this idea! Would be a great way for all of us to grow our flocks with new breeds.

And Kevin has sold all his Lavender Ameraucanas now. I have half, someone else in the Canton area I believe got the others.
I'm getting 2 eggs every other day right now, but since I deliberately picked the younger pullets I'm thrilled with that right now.

I also got 4 unrelated Lavenders, but 3 of those appear to be roosters. I was told 2 +2, but one very hennish looking one is now crowing and chasing ladies. UGH.

Once the newer birds are out of quarantine we will be setting up pens for the BBS and Lavender Ameraucanas and my Lavender Orps who are looking very close to laying finally!

My silkies arent laying yet that I know of though. :( We have a small enclosure for them, just waiting til hubby feels better to set it up.

We just added a kennel for quarantining 19 new birds. Once they are free to join the flocks we will use that pen for one of the breeds, and with a shared wall we will add another pen or two next month.
We currently have a tarp over about 2/3 of it, with chicken wire over the rest.

We have another pen (our original one) made of dog pen panels, with the coop as the fourth side. That one isn't covered, but we have been lucky so far.
I have one Olive Egger rooster who can jump out, but he just stays close, then goes back in at sunset.

Thanks for the answers, guys. Just wanted to know the different methods.

I don't have a cover on my run. Our run covers 8000-9000 sq feet. Most the run is in thick woods near the house. Plenty of hiding space. But, at night, they all go into the coop with closed doors. It is pretty much predator proof right now.

Ok. Yeah, the thing is mine will be sleeping with just the chain link too. I've kept other birds in it without issue, but not valued ones, KWIM?
