YO GEORGIANS! :)

How many of y'all use chain link kennels for runs, and what do you put over them? Like, I know a tarp but do you actually enclose the top with anything or leave it open? I want to move my barred rocks to the kennel now that they're big enough but for some reason am hesitant

The one that my peafowl go in has doubled over aviary netting over the entire thing, plywood over part, and a cattle panel on top of all of that ... then there is hardware cloth wrapped all around at ground level. The Brahmas have aviary netting only over the area of their nest and roosts, the rest is open.
Robo, what would you think if we do an egg exchange at your farm when we meet? You know, like a cookie exchange. We could all bring like two dozen hatching eggs, open the cartons and each would get however many divided by how many people there are) so you take home two dozen eggs from everyone! (Like if there are 12 people who come and they each bring 2 dozen hatching eggs, you would get 2 from every person) That would be so fun! We could mark (to the best of our ability) what the eggs are. What does everyone think?

So, I am looking for some more Lavender Ameraucanas. Anybody have extras or eggs? Kevin is an unreliable source at this time.

Love the idea. Wonder if there is a way to adjust for anyone wanting to participate that can't get together 2 dozen fresh hatching eggs? I know that some of the folks that have mentioned wanting to come may not have that number of birds.

It was, we're just not telling you.

Probably should be sure at least one of us knows. haha

Cattle panels are VERY popular for runs due to the fact it will make a natural arch that is fairly rigid and VERY durable.

So, the weekend started rough. I went by the self-storage place to pick up some tools and stuff. Turns out it had an electrical fire 2 weeks ago and mine was one of about 2 dozen units destroyed. Lost some tools, supplies, a couple of antiques I was going to refinish and "stuff." Good news is I don't have to pay rent any more on it and I don't have to clean it out.

Sat was better. Son #2 came over and helped me separate the coop-hoop house into individual coop hoops. I got most of the breeds back with their own kind and introduced the roosters to the new pullets.

Today, I hit the sale at TSC to stock up on shavings and cattle panels. And then picked up this Craigslist find:

I am all for it! I may have some cool breeds depending on when we do it. Right now I would only have bantam cochins and SS if I can sell some of my other hens to make room for my SS pair to be together finally. I been waiting on her eggs to grow. Hope all my eggs hatch.

That sounds like fun, to decide who picks first, second, etc, do we draw numbers? My eggs are mutts,so if you don't want mutt eggs, you won't hurt my feelings but let me know, I'd still like to come and see everyone. If someone can't make it, I'm willing to meet and take your eggs for ya.

Nice! Best poultry purchase I ever made!

Been lying awake with my sinuses. Heard what was either a fox or a crazy blue heron sound, couldn't tell which. But somehow I managed to keep the dogs from waking up the whole house over it. However now I'm way too hyped to sleep. I love/hate cool animal noises at night! :D

Sure, you get back what you bring. You bring one egg, you exchange it for one egg.
