Flower ... have you thought any more about doing hatching/life cycles in any schools near you?
I haven't thought about it. I do have hatches while the renters are here, but like usual, most hatch in the middle of the night......why is that?????????????
It really is such a wonderful sound.OMG! You have more chicks than Tractor Supply! I can almost close my eyes and hear their happy little chirping! I absolutely love that sound! I can't wait to show DH these photos so he stops thinking I am hatching too many! HA! My little hatches don't even compare! UMMMMM, maybe I need one of those big incubators like yours!
Yes, please.Anybody think there's enough interest in my putting my Whizbang Plucker up for rent this year?
In most of the schools/classes that I do, I provide everything. I also have taken the time to become familiar with the grade level standards and tweak my presentation, handouts, etc. to meet things the teachers need to cover. Chicks never go on overnights with my hatchings. Either families are fully informed and take them home with the intent of forever (though they can call me at any time if they want/need to rehome). I have started to charge a minimal fee for the chicks to help off-set some of my costs. (Or I hatch eggs of breeds that I want for the farm.)You would have to tell me what's involved....who buys the incubators, etc. What do you do with all the chicks? One of the renters told me her school does hatchings and then the kids get to take a chick home for the night (w/ permission) but they bring it back the next day.
Give them 2 weeks. If they're twice as big as everyone else, they're fast-grow. Get ready for a wild, messy ride.
I put 500 lbs in the freezer a couple of years ago.
