YO GEORGIANS! :)

Now for everyone's opinion

I have a chick that is eating and running around being a happy chick, and has feathered out, but it has a prolapsed vent and it is beyond fixing, unless a vet can stitch it up type of problem, so since it is eating and running around and acting normal and maybe not growing as fast except for that and a red belly button sticking off him/her and the other birds don't pay it any attention, do I cull or keep, I know if it turns out to be a hen it will be a serious problem

Ermagerd!!! My first Cochin baby is out and at first I thought it was a black split.. But now that its head is starting to dry, I think it might be a lavender!! Time will tell.. :clap

@Kat - if that turns out to be a hen, you'll wind up culling most likely anyway, although do you think there's a chance it will heal over? OR maybe you could just put some orajel on it, numb it and stitch it up yourself?

on another note, candled the eggs my broody has been sitting on, these are from the swap at GAM's.

first pic, light brown egg marked 4/25 - blood ring. There was another of these I had as well that had a jacked up air cell! thing was all over but seemed to be doing ok, for now. Oh, no it wasn't cracked when I candled it, I didn't think about pics until after I tossed it......oops!

second one, a darker brown marked only with an R, was clear, or in other words, not fertile

so whomever brought these knows what they were I guess?

I could steal him in a heart beat and give you my spurless jerk

Oh love your spurless jerk, the lady I got him from even dremmeled his spurs to a nice round nub, oh and when I finally let him out in the yard and the other roo would pick a fight, I fixed that I trimmed the bad roos spurs and that got that. I was worried cause Henry really wouldn't be able to defend himself cause his spurs are so nice and smooth. You pick him up and he just sits there no fighting or trying to fly away, nice but strange for a rooster

On the bird no it's really out of my expertise, even if I could get it numb enough I don't have the skills to do it, I think it would need a purse string suture, I'll have my DH cull it tomorrow. On the eggs I think the top one is katiedarling's and I can't remember who said they brought the ones with an "R" for RIR on them

Four bantam Cochins out this AM.. ALL LAVENDER!

All the Barred Rocks hatched, and there are two Cochin eggs remaining, one is pipped that I can see- hopefully both! Oh gosh I hope they'll hatch.

With the eggs from the BBQ I have 14 that made it into lock down, yep I'm officially in it!! hatch Sat, I can't wait to see what emerges, so I started with 18 eggs, I was lucky I got some of the left overs, some were infertile, some decided I didn't need them and one I candled today was a quitter, but 14 if they all hatch is a great number, now to figure out if my hen will take these, lol

I had RIR with R on them.

I'm a little behind on hatching. My eggs are on day 15.
Tuesday we find out how the new incubator has done. So far so good.
Although not sure that eggs from elsewhere are a fair first test. Even when hand carried and set for 24 hours, they still may have more stress than eggs from here.

funny because I was just having very similar thoughts this past week. Someone who bought chicks from me, bought more chicks because something happened to some of the first batch. Makes you wonder....and I know carcar sold her some chicks too, and when she was here last week picking up the last 4 she mentioned needing some more because something had gotten them. I will make a point to not sell her any more.....

AND THEN..........no, I'm not saying anything else. I'm trying to get that little "don't say that" thing in my head fixed  bahahaha

oh, and I just realized I just hit 6 years on here! wow how time flies when you're having so much fun   hehehe

Now, I had to buy more cause I lost some to a respiratory issue. But I didn't get more til I had everything settled with the sickness.
I don't mind selling more, IF they have fixed the problem.
