YO GEORGIANS! :)

Thanks. She didn't come out to eat with him again tonight. He finally went back to the water alone. :(

:( hopefully she shows up soon.

I hate to post this right after carcar's troubles, but I just have to share, I have been missing a hen for several, several weeks her and her man roost in the cedar trees across the road and I figured something got her.  The neighbor came over and said are you missing some chicks, I looked puzzled and said no.... well she said I have chicks in my barn, I went in got a clothes basket and we went over and looked, looked, saw egg shells and most looked eaten by something and found her nest and figured something got her and the babies, went to another shed saw some more broken egg shells, and then I just happened to look down in the tall weeds by the door, yep it was her so she was down for the night and I gently reached under her and kept pulling babies out and more babies and more babies and finally got her after she put up a fight, 12 babies under a banty and I almost stepped on her she was that still.  So she is now in a house by herself with her babies all snug as a bug in a rug.!!  Oh after I got all her babies and she was pitching a fit, her man came over to see what the fuss was all about, between her and 12 babies they sure are loud.  No I didn't get pictures, was busy making a clean house for her

Glad to hear you found yours alright! And with babies to boot. Gotta post some pics when you have time.

I don't use them, flower.. I wouldn't think they'd play in them though.

Papa Mal is breaking my heart.

Mama Mal has been MIA for more than a day and I have a sinking feeling. She's been trying to nest all season and kept either losing her eggs to something or abandoning her choice of spot.

I'm fairly certain I saw her Monday evening, but not at all yesterday and it's not looking good for this evening. He's just sitting.. In the rain.. Staring into the pasture.

HOWEVER, I do wonder.. If she was killed, I would think he would have heard it? And I wouldn't think he would be waiting on her like this. Wishful thinking, but I'm holding out hope that she just didn't come off her nest for whatever reason last night.
Those are some tame mallards. When I was there I walked by and they just watched me and didn't even seem to care. I hope she is ok. It is too dangerous to sit in the wild these days.

Yes, he was here when we moved here I believe, and she was bought from Ladd's by my MIL years ago and given to me when she had to move. So she was raised in a pen. The first time she laid eyes on Papa she FLEW to him and has literally never left his side. They are just the cutest couple!

And this time of year they're especially "tame", or rather she's willing you to give her food with her mind powers. She is SASSY and demanding. LOL

Question:  How many of you have Poop trays under your roosts?  Do they help?  Pain in the neck?  worth building?  Don't the chickens just get in the poop trays and dig?  Let me know what kind of experience you all have had with them.  Thanks!

I put a poop tray under my roosts in the coop with the floor. Sand and sweet pdz in it, no smell at all, a kitty litter scoop and a bucket every few days scoop it out and add to the compost.

Yes, they will get up there and scratch around in it. Who knows why....

Because they are chickens. That is what they do.

I hate this! Why can't the sweet things on earth stay! We are going thru the same thing. We had a pair of geese on the lake with 8 babies. Then about a week ago one of the babies and one parent disappeared. So now we have a lonely parent with her 7 babies left!

:( :(

Yeah, it's the absolute worst when it's animals you know tend to mate for life.

If y'all don't mind, keep my Daddy in your prayers today and this weekend. He has been in remission from Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma for some months now, and goes for a scan today as he's having the same original symptoms.. just on the opposite side. :(

Thanks. :)
