YO GEORGIANS! :)

I have Sophia sitting on her eggs in the dining room. The only place I had to put her was in the plastic tote that we use as a brooder when they're tiny. The grow out pen on the porch is occupied by the birds from the swap, as they have only just begun to be big enough to start meet & greet. The little Orp is still a bit little. The others are probably just right.

Now, here come the questions to you experience hatchers:

1 Sophia has been on them without a break since Friday. I only started hearing the peeps under her this morning. Other than that, I have no idea what's happening under there. DO I need to just leave her, or is it safe to maybe lift her a bit & check out who's hatching and who's not? I don't want broodzilla to take my hand off, and I don't wanna stress her or the babies out.

2 If both hatch alright, I assume they can stay in the container with momma for a bit without supplemental heat, because they have her for that?
Since the grow out pen is occupied I can't put them in with the others.

OMG! I just went into the dining room to look in on Sophia. I CAN HEAR PEEPING COMING FROM UNDERNEATH HER!!!! I'm blown away. I honestly thought I'd be tossing rotten eggs into the trash this weekend!!

I have no idea what to do next, I'm sure I'll figure it out as soon as the shock wears off!

Like, holy crap!!!!

so, if both babies hatch, They are free for the taking if anyone would like just 2 more babies.
if you don't have any takers, I'll put them with my crew

It is just so wrong. Pretty sure these things could scare small children. Haha
my son calls these freaks of nature, lol I love them, I wish I had gotten some, oh well next time

you can peek, I try to peek at dusk when all are settling down for the night, seems less stressful, and yes no heat when they are with momma

ok so you all know the story of the hen and chicks that I brought back from across the road, and she had 12 babies, bantam mixes, well the 9 that I hatched out, momma woke up to find more babies and I'm sure she said WTH go to sleep and they mulitply, I love mamma hens I hatch she takes care of them, I think that is a win win situation,, so now she has 21 babies, yeah I'd go crazy and the other hen that I did that too she is also doing great with her babies.

I've never tried potatoes until this year. It was an "experiment" to work out the kinks, in a way. I planted first ones in a dollar tree laundry basket lined with kraft paper(had it on hand) and in that one, I got 5 smallish gold potatoes. They were at the very bottom, so as per GAM's advice on what to do and not do, I basically just grew dirt the rest of the way, because I was adding dirt too soon. Pretty sure I did the same in the plastic tote container too, but that was the container that suddenly had a crust of white powdery mold covering the surface of the soil. Which I removed, but now don't know what to use to kill/prevent it without making the taters at the bottom inedible, or that will alter the taste. I've seen everything from using cinnamon to hydrogen peroxide, but that's in dealing with house plants. If anyone has any advice on that, I'm all ears.

Next year, I will adjust accordingly and see what happens. For starters, I will use a plastic trash can instead and wait a little longer before adding soil.

I will be working an auction at Red Baron Antiques on Wednesday night. One of the "regulars" that attends has a farm in Vidalia(I think it's his). He says they grow a few acres(?) of taters every year. They plant them, till them all up at end of season and a bunch of folks come and gather up all the ones that aren't torn up. The ones that are, are left in the ground to re-seed themselves for the next. When I see him Wednesday, you know I'll be asking him all sorts of questions. So if you want me to ask him anything for you, I'll be happy to. He's one of the more down to earth folks there and is kind to the "common folk". The rest, assume their Black American Express cards mean their poo don't stink. LOL
No questions right now, just pick his head for potato growing. I would use the poultry garden dust

I love them! Hoping I get lucky enough to hatch out a bunch!!
Awe! My babies! I was wondering why nobody was getting any!!! So the question is, do they have Beaus feathered feet or did my new LA roo get in there and they would not have feathered legs? They could also be frizzles and they could lay colored eggs!
Frizzles nns? Be still my heart!!

Awesome! Are you going to let her hatch a few too?

I'm begging but she so big and hard to move that I might be able to get them on board.
They saying no Beuace they don't want anymore chickens but I was trying to explain that someone on this forum might want them, I also said I would only let her have 2 eggs so if they not fertile then we are not better or worse then before.. They said no as I type all this out ;-;

Maybe some day when you have a place of your own.
