YO GEORGIANS! :)

I was using Nutrena  from TS until one bag was out of date,  had one bag that was like dust and crumbles and then one bag that was moldy, notified Nutrena  and they gave me a coupon for a free bag and asked if I contacted management. Had contacted management and they would not refund / exchange or do anything for me. Basically management just did not care. Have had other issues with my local TS . Switched my feed to Southern States and seems to be doing fine with my hens. So word of caution, buying feed at TS check date on bag, should be no older then 1 to 2 months. Per factory and use within 4 months

This is why I only buy from TSC if I am out, have forgotten, and my local place is closed. Too many bags of moldy feed from TSC that I've had to toss. My local place sells Nutrena for $12 for a 50lb bag. Cheaper than the brands TSC offers around here. So... I always assumed TSC stock was old because the local guys have them beat in price.

That's a definite on price, Southern States 50 lb bag of feed is cheaper and so far fresher. In addition seems TS stock for poultry, such as wound care, Vitamins, chick electrolytes and Probiotics is more out of stock then in stock. My TS has Been out of these for over a month, ask why and get the comment that they need to be ordered, ok but when I ask. No response.

I have gotten some Nutrena layer from TSC and the chickens really hate it, I check the date and it's good, but anyone have issues with their birds not liking it? oh it is pellets too. I thought I'd try them on that and they usually eat the crumbles.

My chickens will pretty much eat anything. Of course their favorite is the organic stuff. But at $20 for 40lbs... and I have enough birds I am too ashamed to count them... they don't get it often.

I think Dumor is the brand TSC has. While the chicks and grown ups love the dumor chick starter... those layer pellets just sit and sit and sit. Mine free range so if they don't particularly care for something they won't eat it. I've found moldy chunks by the time we get to the middle of the bag and I know it came that way because we store the food in the house and we go through 50lbs in less than 2 weeks.

Maybe they don't like it because it is old? Stale? Who knows.

Lots of farmers use the local place, so their stock rotates frequently. The nutrena I get there is always fresher.

I'm also new to having an account, but I'm along time lurker. I'm in Atlanta with 5 2-day old chicks and a half built coop. They survived their first night in the brooder, woo!

Woohoo! Congrats! I'm in Atlanta, too with a flock of about 20. :D
What breeds did you choose?

In other news, we cracked a couple eggs open this morning, is this fertile?
700

I think it is, but I wanted a second opinion...
