YO GEORGIANS! :)

Shoot, I'll be at a dog show then. I'll have to hold on for the next one, I've got a couple roosters that need to go.

How well do chicks typically sell?
I haven't been in a while so I am not sure how chicks are doing right now. Did really well in the past. They have 2 auctions a month so you won't have to wait too long.

That's good. Do people typically sell chicks in lots, or as individuals? If lots, of roughly how many? and at what age should they be?

They have had all ages through there and they are always in groups that I have seen. As I am sure you already know, the bidding is for the whole lot but at a per bird cost. (Group of 3 chicks, bid goes to $8, sale price is $24 for that lot)

I've seen 3 chicks up to 12. I wouldn't suggest putting too many together (12 is pretty high). Maybe stay in the 3-6 range, IMHO.

This would be my first time going to auction so that's all great information to me! Thanks so much for letting me pick your brain. :)

Also important to remember that with birds of all sizes, whatever cage they are in goes with the sale. They can be homemade wire cages ... only rule is that you have to be able to clearly see at least three sides.

I could get into lots of trouble at an auction!!! Thanks for the info!
I've gone a number of times just to watch. One time I ended up getting a mature tom turkey for practically nothing. For whatever reason, there was virtually no bidding on him. I don't recall exactly what I paid but it was less than $15. You can't get a bird this size in the stores for that price ... so I bought him for meat. haha The very next lot was a turkey hen that went for $35. I guess folks were so focused on her for their bids they let the tom get away cheap.

Certainly does take some control not to bid on a ton of stuff. yikes!

I think my little girl and I will have to check it out next weekend! If anyone else is going, let me know. I'd love to meet up with other BYC people!

Welcome to BYC Fire108!
