I'm beyond beside myself with this revelation! Many of us made plans and went through expense to prepare for attending this event. I'm VERY interested to find out if the Peachstate Poultry Association sponsors simply didn't do their homework in staging this event. All permits and approvals should have been in place beforehand. I would fully understand if avian influenza were an issue that triggered a cancellation, but it's not.UTTERLY RIDICULOUS.
Just received an email from Peachstate Poultry Association canceling the swap meet this Saturday. This is the last straw for me. There is literally not one nice thing I can say about this. I don't know who to believe about the State Vet and/or the Farmer's Market being blamed, but you can be assured that I will be calling both to heat check stories. The amount of work that so many of us have put into getting ready for this is insane.
We had some Silkies and one LF bird we were going to sell, but that's not really a big deal to us. It's mostly the missed connections with other BYCers and breeders in which we are disappointed. Olivia in particular created a lot of specialty items, so I feel especially bad for her and others like her who put in a lot of up-front time and expense. I'm eager to learn more about the cancellation. It doesn't make sense at this late stage.
