YO GEORGIANS! :)

UTTERLY RIDICULOUS.

Just received an email from Peachstate Poultry Association canceling the swap meet this Saturday. This is the last straw for me. There is literally not one nice thing I can say about this. I don't know who to believe about the State Vet and/or the Farmer's Market being blamed, but you can be assured that I will be calling both to heat check stories. The amount of work that so many of us have put into getting ready for this is insane.
I'm beyond beside myself with this revelation! Many of us made plans and went through expense to prepare for attending this event. I'm VERY interested to find out if the Peachstate Poultry Association sponsors simply didn't do their homework in staging this event. All permits and approvals should have been in place beforehand. I would fully understand if avian influenza were an issue that triggered a cancellation, but it's not.

We had some Silkies and one LF bird we were going to sell, but that's not really a big deal to us. It's mostly the missed connections with other BYCers and breeders in which we are disappointed. Olivia in particular created a lot of specialty items, so I feel especially bad for her and others like her who put in a lot of up-front time and expense. I'm eager to learn more about the cancellation. It doesn't make sense at this late stage.

I am extremely angry about this and cannot properly express the amount of work that so many of us have put into coordinating connections, arranging for the transfer of eggs and birds, and creating great displays for shoppers. Something does not sit right with me about this, and I will not stop making inquiries until I learn the truth. Most of all, I'm very upset about the missed opportunity for community and I feel terrible that I recommended that so many of you from out of town make plans to attend. I'm deeply sorry.:hit

I'm very sad that the show was cancelled. I was looking so forward to meeting so many of you. I thank all of you for the information given to me about this Especially Bruce and his wife I was planning to get at least one or two Silky roos from you. I will wait till next time or make arrangements to purchase from you another way. Maybe we will be able to meet up soon. Thanks again to all of you for helping me figure out what I needed to do for this event. BTW I would like one of those BYC shirts and totes myself. Guess I'll spend my time this weekend building a pen for my roos.

@sue25 I know you were interested in Blue and one of the white silkie boys. I feel bad that this cancellation has gotten in the way of things. I'm not sure what to do at this point. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thx.

BTW, more info has come forth, and the Peachstate Poultry Association swap organizers dropped the ball. They didn't file the necessary paperwork in time. How sad!

ETA: It seems that the Farmer's Market didn't get the proper paperwork filled out in time, and the GDA is admitting that they shut it down because of an internal "miscommunication." However, I still believe that the PPA shares in the blame since as the event organizer, they should have made sure that the major players had their ducks in a row. That's what responsible organizers do. A last-minute cancellation like this does not bode well for the credibility of the PPA or the GDA.

ETA: I have contacted both the Dept of Agriculture and the Farmer's Market manager to seek answers.

Oh dang, that sucks!!

I live about 200 miles from you on the other side of Atlanta in Villa Rica/Carrollton. Madison is about mid-way point, and we could possibly meet there. Another possibility is that some of may meet in Macon on Saturday informally to transfer birds, buy eggs, etc., since some of us already had pre-sales in the works. I'll keep you informed as things takes shape.

ETA: Looks like Olivia was thinking the same thing! :D
