YO GEORGIANS! :)

@hysop

Just wanted to pass along it is day 7 on the incubation.

We ended up with 15 eggs we put in the incubator.

Candled them just a few minutes ago, I forgot to draw the air sac lines but over all my daughter and I are ecstatic. It appears we have embryos for sure in 14 eggs with veins, one looks like a dud for sure, we put it back in and will keep it till day 14 just Incase we missed something, large black area, and saddled. Out of the 14 with veins, we clearly saw movement in at least 8. So let’s see what day 14 looks like..

That’s awesome!! My egg turner wasn’t working and long story short it was user error 🤦‍♀️ But it’s fixed now. We are on day 4. I guess I have try to candle one now huh? Or maybe I’ll wait til day 7. 🤔
We’re eating breakfast barely. All eggs since we have a TON!! We better go on an egg fast because we have a ridiculous amount. We don’t wish to sell them so we want to consume them or preserve them somehow.

Take pictures of the candling every now and then so you can have records for the future.

Ya I failed to get pictures also lol. Was to eggcited, just seeing them actually develop. I’m still low on humidity currently 25%, and so far everything I’ve tried it stays between 22-30.. so I’m hoping for the best. :idunno:bow

ATTENTION GEORGIANS

I’ve been following some commotion on a Facebook group, Just a heads up, there has been a bunch of reports about, a guy in Douglasville, Ga area selling sick chickens. All respiratory issues, seems pretty bad. I would stay away from anyone in that area.. I know a few have said they reported it to the state, but who knows. Just don’t wanna see anyone get a sick pullet and kill a hole flock.

Well well look what I figured out today. It will be a pain in the butt, to keep the humidity up but seems I am going to have to add water every 3-4 hours. I flooded the bottom of incubator with water about 1/16th of a inch deep, and added a soaked sponge instead of paper towels. Swapped to a 15watt light bulb, which allowed me to almost seal the incubator up tight, small holes open to regulate temp. I’ve tested the theory a little and can add more water to the floor and can get humidity to raise or add another sponge, so at lockdown I should be ok.

Question, They are going on 6 weeks. They don't use the heater in the house. Can we place them in the coop this weekend now? How long do we keep their door shut to the run?

At six weeks they’re old enough to run outside. I keep mine outside since day one but with a heat lamp. But at 6 weeks they don’t need a heat lamp and they can enjoy the run now 😊

I’m interested to see your hatch rate. I’ve never done a homemade incubator.

Are your 6 weekers on medicated on non-medicated starter? Be careful at this young age and with all the rain. coccidiosis is a chick / chicken killer Keep a close eye on stools.
