YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hey, no medicated feed since they have been indoors. It has rained a ton that’s why we think this maybe a good weekend in Decatur it’s not supposed to get into the upper 40’s until end of week and no rain until
Next week.

Are your 6 weekers on medicated on non-medicated starter? Be careful at this young age and with all the rain. coccidiosis is a chick / chicken killer Keep a close eye on stools.

Mine are on "DuMOR Chick Starter/Grower 20% Feed, 50 lb." from Tractor Supply. That's what I have always fed all my chicks up until 6 weeks. It's non-medicated.

We've thankfully never had a problem with health issues with my chickens. When it rains I do cover them with a tarp and/or put them in a shelter. My brooder set up is just like Tractor Supply:

A big giant tub with shavings and a waterer and feeder plus a heat lamp. It's never given me problems so I will continue using it until I'm in a different financial position to make fancier brooders with the heat plates I've been seeing.

Once they're 6 weeks I do let them roam in grass (sometimes sooner) then forever after that.

Does anyone have any Delaware chickens? I want them to create red sex links. I found a hatchery type place near me (more like an hour away) that has some, may go there if I decide to get some, but right now I have so many chicks that I rather wait until they're all around 5 weeks. I need a break from chicks!

Hopefully you won’t have any problems. We do have coccidiosis in our dirt , especially where my coop is so we are extra cautious. Typically around 3 months their bodies can fight it off but sometimes it shows up. A little Corrid on hand will help.

Oh wow. Well I’m going on 3 years of doing it this way and no problems, but you can never be too careful. I’ll start researching that chicken issue/disease.

I don't know the sex. It won't mate and even with my older 9 week olds I can't tell the difference in sex. They are a cross of muscovy and pekin. I don't think I can ship. I haven't shipped live birds and don't have the proper boxes. I'm near macon/warner robins. I don't have a pic of the one I was talking about but here's some of the older ones.

With ducks, at 4-5 weeks old, males continue to peep and females begin to quack.

Wow. I’ve been gone from this site for a while because nobody was posting. Glad to see it started back up! I live in North Ga and have about 64 adult chickens and about 26 chicks. My passion is colored eggs and fun and funky chickens! I also have ducks! Glad to know this thread is active again!
