YO GEORGIANS! :)

My Delaware chicks moved out yesterday to a temporary chicken tractor. Once the new 12 x 10 coop is done, they will be moved in there with the old girls (who will be hens in less than a month!), some Blue, Splash and project Lav Ameraucanas and some Marans/Silkies/Orps/BRs.

Throughout the day, we have had four hawk attacks. We have four hawks in the neighborhood. One of the hawks got injured when attacking the chickens! It got it's wing caught in between the run and our yard fence. Poor thing, we had to call animal control to come get it.

We have the framed run for the new coop being set up this week, and until the new coop is done it will be the run for the Del chicks. Now they're trapped up in the tractor because of the hawks.

One chick I'm uncertain on, but I am hoping female. Otherwise I have a trio, and my dwarf male. I will wait a little longer to make sure the dwarf needs to be culled. If it ends up just needing a little more attention, and doesn't crow (which Cyn says dwarfs hardly do), than it will stay with us. Though I think that I will cull.

Have a nice evening everyone.

Well, you have a 2 fold problem....One you're supposed to leave the incubator locked down (not open during hatching days (3 final) ugh and to turn the other eggs, it would be almost impossible during those three days. MMMM,,,what would I do, find another incubator or simply not turn those eggs...Yes the higher humidity could ddrown them, but if you cannot afford to buy one or find someone with one, then the best thing is to keep the incubator shut and just not open it for the sake of the developing babies!

Not sure if anyone is still updating the list but I'm in GA too. That stinks about the hawks. I'm sure animal control will get it nursed back to health and return it to your yard. Lets hope not.

Just put my eggs on lockdown, say a prayer for my eggs and a great hatch. I had originally put 41 eggs in 36 made it to lockdown. Majority are austrolorps and orpingtons but a few Sussex and 2 Dominiques. I can't wait to see them.

What a pretty day today, cleaned coops and waterers and attempted to de-spur a Speckled Sussex Rooster but was not very successful, think I need a lesson.

I have my solution!! We're making a $24 homemade incubator from a styrofoam cooler. I'm really excited! No need for a turner, we're just using it for lockdown/hatching!

Now, a crappy situation just turned exciting, as I have a whole new bator to play with!

Hi everyone! I am new to this site, and am a bit overwhelmed!

My husband is military, and we are stationed in Valdosta, Ga. I just got my first two chickens this week! I am so excited. I would like 2 more, but it is hard to find anyone around the area that will allow me to purchase that small of amount (the minimum is 5 or 6 at all the farm stores).
