Hi all, been a few days since i was in this thread, wanted to say hi again. I picked up a few new hens Monday evening, 3 ameraucanas, and a buff orp! got our first bluish/green egg yesterday, i really didn't expect to get any eggs from the new girls for a few days, i guess she just couldn't hold it in! LOL....
when i built my new coop/run last week, i built in dividers in both the coop and run. currently i have 8 chicks in one side of the coop. i've separated my roo and lone remaining buff orp in that side run outside, have a tarp over part of it to keep them out of the rain, and they have a roost. and am letting the 4 new girls have the other side of the coop and run. hopefully they will 'get to know' each other through the wire and i won't have a lot of fighting when they get together, they don't seem to pay a lot of attention to each other for now. i know that will change when they're actually able to contact!
Nancy, I am wondering if you have any ameraucana roo's. i'm thinking i'm going to rehome the roo i have now, and pick up a roo that will hopefully breed with my two brown-red and one wheaten ameraucana hens. i wouldn't care if he's young and not crowing or fertile yet...can ya let me know please? if not, do you know anyone who might have? Still planning on making a trip down there soon, i want to see the farm!
ok, going to go back to bed and see if the aching back has eased enough to let me sleep a few hours....

Good morning fellow Georgia Peeps. I discovered I have a guard cat yesterday. I was awaken yesterday to a screaming cat and chickens going crazy "I free range". Went outside to investigate and there was a large black cat trying to attack my chickens.

To my surprise however, my outside cat Lexis was attacking the black cat every time he went after my chickens. I like to think Lexis was protecting the chickens but regardless guess its time to rid my property of stray cats..... I thought coyotes would be my nemesis...

Well, my blue/green eggs from neighbor never hatched . They were due on the 21st and nothing. I waited a few days then tossed them out. They weren't fertile. My poor silkie sat in the nest for a whole month before I even gave her the eggs, then they were duds. I felt so sorry for her, but she finally gave up on being broody.

Got my BLRW 12 Chicks for Foley's today. I have 10 ordered from Jesse Paul should get them soon. Yea Can not wait till they grown up. They are going to make a great new flock.
