Bargin ~ Aren't you up north? How are you protecting your tomatoes from this cold snap. Mine are all gone after last night. I am trying with towels to keep the peppers protected because my Tabasco pepper hadn't ripened all the way and I wasn't about to let it go. I hope it will hurry up so I can pick themMYsainted Granny would have thought when I said I lost the thread it belonged in a needle but I lost this thread!!!! And like all of you life has been super busy. We've been in our hatch a few here and there mode for the season Hatched out three cream legbars - our first hatches from those that came from eggs - hurrrah!!!!!
We were trying to expand our rabbit population a bit so......... so about 4 weeks ago, several of our girls went on dates. The expression breeding like rabbits does not apply to domestic rabbits. Only three have had babies.... I am grateful for those but so sad that our little mini lops didn't get the correct exposure. I think the lack of day light hours is a factor for them.
We are still gardening I am picking extremely late tomatoes, that I keep protected . Still bringing in lots of amazing greens and produce, have our honey and canned goods for market and eating eggs, baked goods from our kitchen. Yesterday I stay home for home projects and farm appointments and wowie it was cold to me..... Need to look around for more firewood. We heat by wood stove so yesterday I cooked for about 4 hours on our little stove I found to put on top of our "heating" stove Well chores begin in about 30 minutes Have a fun and blessed day!!!!!
I put lights on timers in the chicken pen and coop. Now before it gets dark, I have to go out and turn my husbands automatic light on the shop off until after dark,, so my crazy chickens will go to their pen. Then when I go out to close them up, they will have gathered right at the door of their pen, all hunkered down together, instead of going into their pen and coop. They're like a bunch of kids when you tell them it's time to come in because it's getting dark,"aww mom we don't want to come in yet, we're not tired." I guess I can't complain to much, at least they are all laying and they figured out that they were supposed to keep the egg laying in the coop instead of the yard.
Ahh chickens...don't you just love them! I am trying to train the 9 week olds to go in the coop and up the stairs to their nesting boxes. Ha ha they haven't quite got it yet but they will. Tonight they actually went into the coop by themselves but alas they were the last ones in. What kind of chickens do you have there in these pictures?

SOOOOO handsome!!! Isn't that a lavender hen in the background? Will he not work for you BBS pen? Is he mean??? I only have one roo, so far, and he tried to show his hand by pecking my foot but I scoop him up and carry him around so he knows who's BOSS!
Glad you posted these pictures. I have one Lavender silkie and I adore it. It came from Catdance. I've been told it's a self-blue cream and I've been told it maybe an "opal". There are new colors out there and everyone has an idea what they should be called. For me he/she is just charming and I named it Violet.
