Well I was reading some interesting treats you can feed your chickens and bought some plain Greek yogurt today. When I gave it to Lucy and Zoey , they are only 6-7 weeks old, they ignored it and scratched a bunch of sand and dirt into it...I then put some on Zoey's beak and she tried it but wasn't mpressed. Lucy just ran the other way and wanted no part of it. I then hung a broccoli from the ceiling of their cage...we shall see what they think of that later....So...how do you get chickens who have no interest in "treats" to start to try them? Just keep putting it out or in with them and eventually they might get interested?

Well you could spoon feed your chickens. That's what I do with mine when I have messy food like yogurt. And my chickens seem to enjoy bagels with cream cheese VERY much! They stole one out of my hands. Oh and they like waffles. I hope that helps for your chicks!!

I might try that...Lucy, my unknown mix, is very spunky and skittish...she doesn't want to be ner anything new but Zoey my Wyandotte comes right over to see what's new...she just doesn't know what to do with it yet...I hung a big broccoli in their cage and Lucy refused to go back inside ! She freaked out !

I give yogurt to them by putting some into their water. I mix it well so it is still liquidy. Mine still drink it with no problem and they get the benefits. Just like a yogurt shake!

I started the yogurt by sprinkling their normal food on top of it. If you can get your girls to enjoy yogurt, they'll soon learn to love almost any treat! Here's how it works:

Step 1: Get them to like yogurt. Sprinkle chick starter on top to get them to try it. They'll go in for the starter, but eventually end up tasting some yogurt. They just might like it!

Step 2: Feed them yogurt on your finger, in a bowl, etc. Offer yogurt in different ways.

Step 3: Offer yogurt on top of some other treat you want them to eat. For example, the broccoli. Smear the yogurt onto the head. Like in step one, they'll go in for what they know and experience a new food.

I have 2 New Hampshire Reds and when I first got them (I didn't get them as chicks) they also would run away. It would take me forever to get them back in their cage, but now since I've held them and hand fed them I can pick them up easy. How old is Lucy? Cause if you start holding them as chicks they'll probably be easier to catch when they're older. Hope that helps!!!!

Lucy is 6-7 weeks and I have had her since she was 2 weeks old. She will follow me around, jump up on my knee and sit next to me but does not like to be touched or picked up...she's a funny likttle bird with a mind of her own ! On the other hand, my other Wyandotte, same age, loves to be cuddled and petted...go figure !

I gave them bits of hamburger rolls and they picked at them...the grapes were not a big hit but Lucy did try them. She really likes strawberry tops and tomatoes. My 2 older ones are only 7 weeks so they are not too sure about trying new things yet ! I'll try pretzels next time we have them though.
