I have a chick that was born this am. He seems to be doing fine but has a portion of his yolk sac unabsorbed. It's the size of a lemonhead candy. Will it absorb? How long will it take? Should I keep him away from the other chicks? What happens if it doesn't absorb? Will it fall off? Is he gonna die?

Thanks. He's still in the hatcher. Was too scared to put him with the others. Worried they would pop it and he would die.

I'm really praying for your little guy! I had one with a sac like that and she didnt make it. We were devastated. Just never give up!

I had several like that and I kept them wrapped up under a lamp and separate from the others till it absorbed. I had another that didn't absorb her yolk at all; it dangled from the umbilicus looking scary. It burst and I had to cut the umbilicus and keep her separate and quiet for the first 36 hours..and she ended up just fine. She's a feisty little thing!

Thanks everyone. He seems ok so far. Put him in the brooder. He ate and drank a little and is now sleeping with his buddies. Hope it goes ok. It is really small but still worried me. The only one that hatched like that out of 26. I have one more egg that I think won't do anything. Gonna give it some more time and pray. But overall a successful 4 hatch.

So it still hasn't absorbed. If it hasn't reduced in size by tomorrow I will post a pic. Really wierd. He is acting fine and eating and drinking so not stressing too much.
