You don't pay me enough to be your "work wife"

I would file a sexual harassment lawsuit against him and the company. You can report companies and other employees to the department of labor.

Duh ment to say can report.

Unfortunately, that is not unusual behavior for managers. Very often, they are only marginally qualified to do their job and think that bullying will cover up the fact that they don't know what to do.

I suggest finding another job, but not quiting until you have something lined up. Don't have the expectations of ever getting a fun job with a great boss. Nobody is going to pay you to have fun and great bosses are rare.

I have only ever worked for one really competent boss, and she was a dream to work for. Most of the others have either been bullies, or else they want to be everyone's friend, which ends up with nobody doing any work but me. There is no reason to work if the boss doesn't expect any work and never says anything if you are goofing off.

The lower you get on the pay scale, the grumpier the bosses get. Some of that is because they are engaged in a full time battle to get any work out of their employees. Some of that is because they don't know how to get any work out of their employees.

Ya got that right! And belive me, I don't think I should have a boss that's all fun and goofy. I just want one that actually speaks TO me and not AT me. One that is pleasant. I want a boss that I can actually talk to without feeling like an idiot (he gives me those "you're an idiot" looks). I want one that I can speak to, period!
I do get what you mean though. He is definately not the boss type at all. He's underqualified and not at all ambitious.

Im a work wife, my boss is really my husband... So I do get all sorts of rude comments and harassment. A lot more is expected of me than normal empoyees, I have to make him look good.

The other side of the coin! Must I wonder, does he only want one wife because I'm the love of his life and meet his every need? Or because he's got just about all he can take? No, I think I'll stay in my reality, I enjoy it.

Sorry, off topic, hopping down the bunny trail, wrong season anyway, Happy Valentines Day, All!

I worked for some screamers and yellers that is the way they operate and I would ask them one time to not yell at me and tell them I am not your wife. After that if it was a male I would usually knock him on his butt and quit. Of course now I am self employed so I really do not have those problems but a few new ones to replace them. I think you will find that the world that was painted for you is not really the world you live in, I went through the same thing in my early 20s' and you basically have 2 choices stand up for yourself (which is what a screamer really wants you to do) or quit.

i had to deal with a restaurant manager i worked for that was like that. i was a shift supervisor and i worked with about 6 others in the same position with about 15 'kids'. this guy threw temper tantrums when things didn't go his way and always whined to us about how lousy a few of us were on his' bad' days, and then would turn to the kids that worked with us and praise them for 'wonderful' work when they would be slacking off the whole time!

he used to call me every couple of mornings to pick up food stuff for work when we ran out. if he couldn't get a hold of me on those days he would have a fit when i got to work that i wasn't 'available' to him!

i finally got up the nerve and had a job interview that panned out to a new job. so i called up the boss while he was on vacation and said i am officially giving you my 2 weeks notice. i guess he didn't take me serious because i got a call the week after my official last day asking me why i wasn't at work all week! and then he 'forgot' after 6 months of me not being there to take me off the insurance. he thought i would come back! (i found out from a former co-worker when my newer insurance was refusing to pay for something)

No judging here - get out!!! Start looking for another job yesterday. No reason to put up with crap in the workplace if you are doing your job in a proper fashion!
