How old was she when this happened? I'm getting a little worried about my Brahma. She sleeps way more than the others. I just put some hard boiled egg in for them and she was the only one who showed no interest whatsoever. She's got 2 fused toes, so all around she's not quite right.

I don't have any electrolyte sports powder, but I do have some pedialyte freezer pops. I might pull one out to thaw, just in case I need it.

I assume the yogurt was for some healthy bacteria? I've got lots of dairy yogurt and a tube of avian/reptile probiotics (had my parrot to the vet last week... Clean bill of health, but they still gave me the stuff!)

They were maybe two weeks old when this happened... still comfortably fitting in my hand. She was completely limp during that night -- just laying in my hand, not so much as cheeping.

I am by no means an expert --- but yes, the yogurt was for the probiotics/healthy bacteria. You can use regular yogurt; we don't eat dairy so didn't have any on hand.

The water/sugar/electrolyte mix is basically a jump starter, from what i understand. Heck, gatorade would probably work.

Pedialyte is high in electrolytes, right? I'd melt a pop to room temp and use that. Getting filbert to actually drink was an exercise in patience. Each drip would sit on the side of her beak until it dripped off... but just enough would get in that every 5 drops or so she'd be forced to gulp. My hands were a bit purple (grape flavor) by the end of the night.

I've been giving the pedialyte. I've gotten quite a bit into her now, though still no food. I haven't tried yogurt yet, but I did try some scrambled eggs. No go...

I haven't noticed if she's pooped at all either. Maybe I'll run down and grab some yogurt...

This is why I love BYC so much. It's so beautiful to see so many people dedicated to the happiness and comfort of humble, yet enchantingly spirited little animals. I firmly believe that chickens bring out the best in people. You were that chick's guardian angel!

I fed her through the night, every 1.5 hours (trying to get at least 5-10 'glugs' from her where I knew she swallowed some). It still took at least 12 hours to see signs of improvement... it wasn't till the next afternoon (probably 18 hours) that it was obvious she was on the road to recovery.

The yogurt, I'm not sure if she ever actually ate any. I'd sort of rub it on the side of her beak and do the best I could.

Best wishes, I hope your brahma improves soon!

What a great story and so glad Filbert pulled through! What was the diagnosis? Was she just compromised from shipping?

Tiny, you might start a separate thread about your sick bird in the Emergencies/Illness category and maybe more people will notice it. Is your bird pooping normally? If it's a chick it could have Pasty Butt

We bought her, and 3 others (Macadamia, Walnut, and Almond -- Fil, Mac, Al, and Wally) from a local farming type store... they (thankfully) get many of their chicks from local sources, and only some from distant hatcheries. I'm a big supporter of local - especially in regards to chickens, since the greater industry is pretty rough on the species. But since some of the chickens at the store do come from further away, it's possible she was shipped a longer distance.

She had been doing just fine for the first week and a half or so, and we had/have them on the medicated feed. So ultimately I have no idea what the diagnosis was -- just the cure (love, sugar water, and electrolytes!).

Everybody keeps saying that, but this guys pic is showing, I was able to post pics the first time I tried. I think I had only done about 2-3 post before I posted pics. I am so glad Filbert made it!
