subscribing to the thread simply adds it to your subscribed list. how you want those threads handled is up to you. I selected no emails for my subscribed threads. you can also choose digest form (once a day) or individual (each time a message is sent)...No it sends you email, if you don't have email you can't. But in these it is not necessary because they move to fast.
That's why I don't get it. Much easier to set your subscriptions and preferences rather than posting to add it to your subscribed list. All very well and good that people want to mark their spot, but because I've subsribed to all kinds of stuff site only, a nothing post shows up as a new post regardless. So I make a 'trip' to the thread only to find out it's someone marking their spot. I wish those people would subscribe and set their preferences instead of faking me out. click on subscriptions up at the top right, then choose the far right tab (Edit My Subscriptions) to select how you want your subscriptions handled. scroll down to default for new subscriptions and set that to Site Only if you don't want to receive emails. and just above that is 'stop all subscriptions email' to set the same for all subscribed posts.
subscribing *using the link at the top of the thread* is no different than posting in that thread, except that once you've posted you're automatically subscribed.
then when you go to byc you can just click on subscriptions, (go to the threads tab if you aren't already put there) and read away.
