I think your mom said there is nothing for dinner because she was hoping you would take her out & pay for it. Mom's are clever that way. Or if you are old enough to move out, maybe she is trying to encourage that. No offense intended, just that I had a mom too (no surprise) and know the tricks.

No offense taken, but my mom lives with me. After my father died I moved her in because she can't live and afford to live on her own.
My mom is more blunt too. She will just demand dinner.... she not a beat around the Bush kind of lady.

The fish we had (which I thought we had bought for us) was what I had expected to eat for dinner. Just last week, we went to the store and she goes. .... that fish looks good doesn't it. I look over and yeah we should get some and I'll grill it tonight for us ... then realize and say oh I get it.... you mean for the chickens. My mom's reply.... hehe yes. So we got the fish for the chickens and I got chicken for us lol
