You know you love your chickens when...

I just wanted to thank all of yall for your understanding how my wife and I are basically...mournin for our hen Tippy having passed. She truly was a sweet little hen. Your kind words are making it better. She come home from work the other day upset on account of how people'd given her this look like she was crazy after they'd asked her whats wrong and she'd answer she was sad because our hen had been but to sleep. One of her coworkers even said "it's just a chicken" But all of yall...THANK YOU for having a heart. Making this a little easier to take.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am so attached to the 3 we have now that I don't know how I'll manage when something happens. My deepest sympathies.

@chickrunfun , there are lots of fools out there who don't understand so many things. I knew that I wanted chickens, but I didn't understand how much I would care about them. My husband did not want them, and he is even worse!

I used to jokingly say that I was filling my empty nest, when people asked why I had gotten my chicks. It has turned out to be the truth.

I am grateful to all the kindred spirits that I have found here.

Chickens are fascinating creatures with individual personalities, but you will never understand it until you own one.

ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!..... but, I do have a good one to share---- with this very deep cold spell here in NY, my husband and I have been putting garden scalloped edged patio blocks in our oven and heating them up for a few hours and then taking them to the coop every couple of hours to keep my 3 girls from being uncomfortably cold.

On the totally opposite .. I have been going out every few hours to refresh their water and put ice cubes in it; giving them a tray of water with frozen vegies in it, plus watermelon and damping down the run.

That was me this past summer with the ice and all. In fact the last place we lived had these tall evergreens that surrounded the big backyard. I would go out a couple times a day and spray way up and down all of them until they were soaked and with a little breeze it was like a giant swamp cooler. They knew what I was about to do each time I would go out and it was so cute how they would get all excited and jabbering at me. Just love my girls.

when you desktop background are pictures of your chickens, chickens your getting in the future, chickens you just think are pretty or cute, and chickens you have had in the past.

And along witheveryone else on this post, my family and friends (especially the Facebook variety) feel compelled to send me every chicken picture the internet holds. And I laugh and thank them even though I've seen it a hundred times from someone else.

But have you heard the laughing roosters from indonesia ?
