You know you love your chickens when...

LOL I do this all the time and its awesome I will be walking around and all of a sudden my husband will say something and one of them will poke their head out and look at him and then spend 5 minutes deciding if they want to go to "Daddy" or stay cuddled up with "Mommy"

.....it's day two of "let's move the bigger girls in with the other big girls so that if Josephine and Flossie have babies there's more room and they won't be scared" and it's dark and you go to check that everyone has gone into the coop only to find that Marcy's not there, so you do a search of the backyard to find her and put her to bed with the others.

My two mille fleur pullets do NOT want to go into the run/coop with the others at feeding time for some reason (the MF cockerel is a good boy and follows the rest of the flock). So I have to wait until it's dark and they're roosting right in front of the run door, grab one of them and shoo the other in the run. The silly little things probably deserve to get eaten by a raccoon, but I'd feel bad.

You know you love your chickens when... you spend the time and $$ to lite up the girls residence because the nights are coming sooner and sooner, so they can have more wakey wakey time...and yes, they do also have a box fan set up so they don't have uncomfortable nights when it's hot. SPOILED rotten.

I LOVE this forum, every time I see a post like this, I again feel normal and not so much of a "crazy chicken lady" LOL

Today my Odette was feeling broody, so Odile was by herself when I came out for free range time. Odile came out of the run and just stood near me; then she looked up, and I saw she had spotted a hawk. We kept an eye on the hawk together until it flew away, and then she stayed next to me and preened her feathers and talked quietly to me for a long time. I think the feeling that you and a hen are keeping each other company is maybe the nicest feeling in the world.

When you're tucked into bed past midnight, just dropping off to sleep when you hear a a loud bawking from the coop so you shove your feet into shoes and run outside, sure that something's eating your babies. In a t-shirt and undies. The temp is high 40s tonight. Apparently your brahma boy is having a bad dream? So you pet him until he's calm again. Now back in bed, shivering...
