Hey, that's CENTRAL/WEST South Dakota. Southern SD is a little too desertish for my taste. On the bright side, we west-river folk may possibly be too inhospitable all round (cold, dry, well-armed) for the murder hornet hordes to even want to descend upon us, so there's that...

No scorpions here, bless your heart! No rattlesnakes either--not where we live, anyway. I've been through and through the woods here more than just about anybody since the gold rush, I suppose. Those rattlers would have found me for sure.

Elk, though. Lots of them--scary-lots, and you'd never know it at all, riding the trails in an ATV or even a bicycle, or even walking--at least not walking on the trails. It's quite a place. Lots of people come, but hardly anyone ever really sees it.
