You never really know chickens

Great story! Last time my hen disappeared, it was because she was out laying eggs! We saw her every now and then but were always afraid something would happen. Then we discovered her nest of 17 eggs. She hatched all 17....in November! Chickens are amazing!

She is out there somewhere again. I don’t need 17 more chickens though....

Yellow legs, and tail and overall shape look like a leghorn to me, but the rusty parts - must be a cross?

I got them from the local feed store. When I called to mention that she did not match, he said that is why they throw in a free one... so oh well.

If she is a gamefowl, I suppose she will still lay. To be honest, I have never had good luck with white chickens, they seem to be predator bate. Loved the Delaware, but fed the wildlife. However, she did make it just fine for more than a week.

Kind of hoping for a white egg, I have 2-3 shade of green, and brown, a white egg would be nice addition.

oh no, I have a pretty large run 600 sq feet. And lots of hideouts, and roosts and multiple feed stations.

She can also go back in the coop. I think she is going to be fine. I will keep an eye out.

I just realized she's not really new....
but is just 'single', cause you ate all her hatch mates.
Were the meat birds separate from the layer flock?
