Well, if you're birds had heard and understood that you admitted to liking the taste of chocolate coloured birds, I maintain they would still be reluctant to cooperate.

(They probably wouldn't care if you admitted a preference for the taste of chocolate coloured (or flavored) dogs. If mine keeps getting my chococlate, you can taste him.)

I had a Doberman named Sadie who was a rescuer, The day after holloween she would chase the cat up on top of fridge where the bowl of chocolate sat, the cat would knock the bowl off the fridge to the counter and Sadie would eat the chocolate she never got sick and she loved chocolate.

I used to have a dog that loved chocolate. We lived in the city then, and she would greet all the little kids going door to door selling candy bars. They would be a little nervous until I told them she only wanted some of their candy.

It is a good thing I had not heard it was toxic to dogs as she enjoyed many candy bars in her 17 years of life.

I have to wonder if chocolate is poisonous to *some* dogs, but not others. I have known dogs that have eaten chocolate; I have never known a dog to get sick from it. That's not to say I don't believe some (or most) do. I've just never witnessed it.

The only poisoning I've ever witnessed was our German Shepherd who ate a rhododendron leaf -- and man, those are poisonous. Why he did it, I'll never know but he was VERY sick. We thought we were going to lose him. He was taken to the vet daily for several days. (I think he initially stayed the night.) It was a wait and see game. We were very fortunate that my dad saw him eat the leaf or we would have had no clue what was wrong.

@Sonoran Silkies I would describe the shepherd as "caramel" coloured with a bit of "cajun". I don't have a clue how that colour tastes.

Our Cocker Spaniel L O V E D Chocolate! He ate an entire Chocolate Pie one time and 2 lbs of Fudge! Never bothered him! He lived to almost 16 and died of old age. My Jacks would eat it and one did snag a piece, it took me hours to clean up the aftermath

My sister had child locks on all her cupboards because of her animals.

I haven't actually heard of a dog getting seriously ill off chocolate either. We had a terrier we gave chocolate to all the time growing up and I know tons of dogs that have eaten entire large bars or those giant hershey's kisses. The worst that happened was some diarrhea.
