Young chick henpecked badly..help

She should be fine a long as she continues to eat, poop, and drink. I would recommend not keeping silkies with larger birds, they get picked on often.

I am happy to hear that..she is pooping and it's normal. The food she has not touched, the water i am doing by hand. The silkie mix is about the size of a silkie, but this one is only 2 months old and the mix is about 3 or 4 months..so bigger because she is older. But i do know that you are right about that.

It's good that she's drinking, and I don't know how long ago this happened but you should try to get a bit of food in her before too long. If she refuses to eat can you tempt her with treats?

I've also read other recommend not keeping Silkies with LF, and I was not aware they have a "soft spot" on the top of their heads. AllenK@new2this posted a good link to integrating into a flock; See but No Touch. Interrogation is something I have not attempted yet, limited to 4 - 6 pullets I switch the flock out.

Ahhhhh i didn't know about the soft spot either. Glad you mentioned this. All of the birds in this flock are my bantams...she is just super young, and this mix is nasty...really nasty. I am going to take her out and put her in time out.

Oh, OK thank you. I just thought that water was important. I don't think she will eat anything right now. I am forcing water..ill try placing food on her beak .I just figured because it's night time, she is ignoring everything. This happened maybe 3 hours a go.

Corid is for coccidiosis, so I wouldn't be giving it to the injured chick. Keep her warm, quiet and isolated from the other chickens so you can observe her. If she was pecked in the head and/or neck, she may show signs of neurological damage, such as poor balance, inability to walk or stand properly, inability to hold her head upright, inability to eat or drink, etc. If these symptoms persist for more than a few days, you may have to consider putting her down. If you're not seeing any of these signs, she may just need time to heal from the injury.

OK, I was told to give it to her just incase she has it...but Ill take that out. She was unable to stand, but now she can do that, she held her head up and burried it in her wing for a bit..now it's in sleep mode .She did strech out her neck eariler ...so hopefully she's good there .Thank you for your information.

Never mind. I am sad to say, she just passed away. Found her layung down, head was shaking, she opened her eyes for a moment, closed them and she was gone. Her last poop was normal, but just before she passed it was a liquid, light brown. I assume it was a head shot she couldn't recover from.

What is the sq. footage of your coop and of your run? How many birds total?

It is about 20 by 20 with 6 bantams. The coop for my big Brahams, white rocks and orps is about one acre. My small ones are not close to the big ones. This was a silkie/Polish mix that did this. Sadly she has passed, i thought she was OK, guess not.

This happened to my silkies of the same age. It turns out they had bad chicken lice, and they were henpecked. I treated them for lice. I still lost one, but the white Silkie (Betty White) survived. I ended up tube-feeding her, and eventually she started eating on her own. We added another chicken about her age, and they get along well but definitely have to steer clear of the larger ladies. The new bird tends to follow Betty around, which is great because chickens need friends! Betty never fully regained her spunk but they other day we hung out in the garden and she downed 9 worms.
