I 'm a newbee so please be patient with me.
I have a young Cochin hen that cannot walk. She is about 5 months old, and just laid her first 2 eggs. I was so happy until yesterday. I had her penned with a show girl rooster and it was time to put them in a bigger pen. When I went to move her, I noticed that she didn't want to walk. She would flap her wings and basically scoot backward. I examined her and could not find any injuries that were obvious. Both of her legs will move, and she has strength in them (she can push back when I flex her legs). But she will not stand or walk. She will eat if i hold crumbles under her. She will drink if I take her to the waterer. I can't see any other symptoms. THere is no way that any preditors got to her, so I can pretty much rule out injury. I can't feel any swelling in her belly like she may have impacted eggs. From what I'm reading, could it be Marek's? If it is, should I expect the rest of the flock to get it too? It just seems ironic that this happened 2 days after she laid her first egg. Could there be a connection or just a coincidence? Any suggestions? I have isolated her from the rest of the flock. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thnanks
