Young Duck's First Time

We provide our ducks with nesting material and a large box made from pallets and they make their own nests in there. and actaully lay in the nests too, never in the yard.

DER! Buff to me is a color. Not a breed. So I overlooked that.

Thanks OP for clarifying. :) Hey, maybe your goats will make your duck jealous so she'll hop in there and lay! hehe

Lol, Thanks for all the posts

sorry that sounds so funny - I can totally see my goat trying to fit his BIG LUMP body into a nest box gig gig

Do your ducks not have a separate area to sleep or anything? you might need to make something to keep a space for the ducks where the goats can't squeeze in.

Unfortunatly they dont. We dont have the room, our 5 acres isnt fenced in and the goats are pygmy/pygmy crosses so they are small

the breed is just "buff". they jsut named them after their color. we are getting some as soon as we find some. i would imagine she would start laying anytime now. isn't 6 months the average age for laying for most of them. maybe she's a late bloomer. so out of curiosity are they as pretty in person as they are in pictures?

Yes they are, lol.Well, mine is anyway. Road Runner is just the picture of a little angel. She is so beautiful, but she is a petite little thing. Ill post pics When I get back home.

Her "mate" is twice the size of her.
He is a male mallard.

Another question.
Just the other day when I was doing pools My ducks went at it again. Only this time Monty decided he would join in! He is an elderly cripple, but when chuck mounted Road Runner , Monty Tried to mount Chuck! Should I be worried? Mom said No more ducks so that means no more females. The only ducks I am allowed to have are whatever Road Runner Hatches.

As for nesting, Im not sure what to do. I want her to go broody But im Not sure how to keep the goats away, unless I build a pen using chicken wire. Only problem is the goats might try to tear that down.
