Young Goat Buck showing labored breathing etc.

Hey everyone,

We have a young buck who is experiencing some distress. He is a LaMancha/ Alpine mix approx. 6 months old. Yesterday he was fine, but when we went out this morning he was laying down and had labored breathing. He can still get up, but not well. His stomach feels mushy. He is drinking water, but shows no interest in food. He is anemic. We dewormed him on 6/18/10 with Ivermectin, but his eyes and gums are still very white.

We are about to go take his temperature, and continue figuring out the symptoms. Any ideas or directions would sure help .

I would deworm him with something besides Ivermectin since so many goat parasites are resistant to it...cydectin is a good choice. If he's truly that anemic then the breathing could just be due to the fact that he can't oxygenate his tissues like he should and his body is trying to cope. It sounds like he may a need a blood transfusion to get him through until his body can catch up. Do you have other goats on the property that aren't anemic that could donate?
