Young hen appears to have gone broody first time

Golf balls are used to show the hens where to lay . I use golf balls in all my nest and I have 12 nest , and NONE of my hens have gone broody because of the golfballs .

Broody is totally a hormonial cycle .

Well, it was always something she seemed to want to do and my biggest regret is that I contributed to it in a few ways that I can easily imagine and describe and even in ways I don't even know about.

I should've left the nest where it was, but the chicken house looked pretty bad that way - imagine 12 Staples' milk carton boxes side by side connected by their connectors on 2x4 tracks with her nest being on the ground at the low point and most of the other 12 in various stages of sagging to that 'V' on the ground. Not much room for error for a bad carpenter trying to hang milk cartons between two rows of 2x4s. To make it much worse, other birds use that area for roosting at night.

Send me to chicken incubating charm school because I'm pretty culpable at this point.

these are my nesting boxes . They look like milk crates , but actually they are coke crates . ( BIGGER ) they are all side by side, right side up , all on floor of coop , filled with hay in the winter , pine shavings in the summer . roosting area is on total opposite said of the coop .

Yes, I obviously was making it too easy -
lay an egg, become a HEN!

Only a woman would think of that, hehe!!

I like those coke crates but I'm sure they aren't sold anywhere? Which is why I ended up with the Staples "milk" cartons.
