About 28 days ago my young hen Loaf (Buff orpington, just under 1yr old) went broody. I've been taking the eggs out from under her every once in a while, but now I feel like that was the wrong thing to do. I dont think hens are usually broody for this long, so I want to try breaking it soon before she hurts herself. Does anybody have any suggestions for what I should do?

The best way I have found to break a broody hen is to put her in a pen off the ground for a few days. Wire bottom pen. That always seems to break them for me.
From what I have heard, the longer they are broody, the longer it takes to break it. I really dont want to torture my sweet baby, but if I thats what needs to be done, I guess I do. Thanks for the help!

Hey, sorry to bug you again, but do you think it would hurt to lock her out of the coop during the day and keep her in jail at night? I want to try that but I dont know if that will work out or not.

Can you give her a couple of chicks? Day-olds are best. If you just slip them under her at night, she should abandon the rest on her own within a couple of days.
