Why would my hen molt when she’s under a year old and not only in winter but in the middle of the biggest snowstorm in decades? At first I thought the other girls were pecking her because they’ve been confined due to heavy snow, but I don’t see and blood or lesions, just massive loss of feathers. She looks awful and only has one tail feather left. What’s going on?

I’m here to see what others think! I have two hens now who appear to be molting at 10 months. I’ve looked them over for bugs and haven’t seen any so hopefully have ruled that out.

Do yours looks like this one? My other ones comb looks sad, I’ve been trying to up their protein.

Yesterday there were feathers everywhere in my coop and today too (and I mean everywhere) so I have one or more molting also. Mine are white leghorns. I have some that are almost 2 years old and some that are 3 months old. I didn't look to see who was molting but no one appears naked. They can look like your pic when partially molting.
