Hi I have a hen that has been acting a little strange for the past few days. She is about five months old and has not laid an egg yet but she is acting a bit strangely. She’s usually my more timid hen and lately she’s been coming up to me and she has her tail pointed down and she is laying down a bit more. Otherwise she is eating well and keeps up with the others just fine. In fact, she looks to be the hen in charge.

Could she be preparing to lay soon or egg bound? This is my first time owning chickens so I’m not sure what is going on.

When she was a younger chick she had some major issues in the vent area. She had a pretty bad prolapse which looks to be caused by dehydrationalthough not completely sure. I can send pictures of that gruesome situation if it would help with any insight. Thanks in advance!

She's about to start laying, no worries
I have a delaware that has suffered a nasty prolapse, she and your pullet mirror stance and behavior perfectly
Only difference my hen is 3 so it isn't odd to me anymore.
My guess on cause is slight scarring and/or nerves not communicating as they, are intended.
Some odd looking eggs are normal ,soft shelled are above the norm as well.:) .
