Hello All!
I was weighing my rooster yesterday and he had lost weight instead of gaining. Curious, I checked his body and found several lumps over his chest bone. The largest and most exposed was a black one. At first I thought it was a scab!
Minor manipulation with my fingers and it released itself partially from the surrounding skin. The half to the inside of his body was pinkish but the outside facing area was black. There were 4 other under the skin lumps running along the breast bone as well Only two (this one included) were excessively large . Like quarter size. And just one was exposed and black.
So I prepped and cleaned the area. I had a friend help me hold him and I carefully excised the lump.
No bleeding just slight ooze. And when looking inside, a saw a deep cavity hole deeper then the lump removed was in. I manipulated with my fingers the second lump which was completely under the skin, and was able to eject it just by palpation. A little bloody ooze accompanied this. I used tweezers to pull out any remnants.
I cleaned the hole and loaded it with antibiotic gel. This morning the area looks a good color pink and the Roo seems more chipper than he has been.
To me they were like fatt lumps. Perhaps a reaction of protection from an injury? We did just have a racoon-fox attack. That injured three other birds from swollen eyes to ripped belly and under wing damage.
Any suggestions? Ideas on what else to do? Does the cavity space inside permit a bigger medic response? Etc.
Thank you everyone!
