Your 2025 Garden

Marigolds are sprouting, as are some of the leafy greens! 🥳 And my onion seeds arrived yesterday! Must get those started this weekend, along with the arugula.

Offhand does anyone know if 8 hours on the grow light is too much for spinach, leaf lettuce etc? I’m tempted to take them off the light, I don’t want them to bolt before I can harvest them (again).
I keep my grow lights on for 12-14 hours a day . The light should be no more than 2" above the seedlings. I also grow my seedlings in a cool basement room . If doing 8 hours a day your seedlings will stretch to try and get more light.

This will be our first year of growing vining crops on cattle panels. I think this will work much better for heavy crops like squash and cucumbers than the netting. Netting will still be used for taller growing beans.
I arch my cattle panels and grow butternut squash, cucumbers etc on them. It works wonders and by midsummer you have a shady tunnel underneath.. I also have this on the way to my chicken coop which then provides some shade for my girls as well.

I'm going to put mine in a line in a traditional fence style. I think we can harvest all we need that way. No way for us to make a covered walkway to the coops the way our farm is laid out.

I had one Intrepid tree in TN. It like the rest bore a heavy crop the first year of bearing. No tree had fruit ever again with the late frosty freezes in the mid 20's at bloom set. Not sure what I'll find to plant this year but I want to add to new trees. Large ones that should bloom next year.
Intrepid needs 1050 chill hours which I get here easily. If a tree does not get as many chill hours as it needs, it will not fruit.

In Florida you will want trees that have a low chill hours requirement.

Just got my order of seeds from Baker Creek. My Gurney’s order has shipped out as well!

I'm north of the AL/FL line. Far enough not to pay for hurricane insurance. I select trees for Zones 8/9 as I'm in 8a. So many good varieties I can't grow because of high chill hour requirements. Didn't have that problem in TN. Shorter summers there and longer, colder winters.
