Two windy to plant today in the ground cover. The holes have to be burned with my small propane torch and it doesn't do well in high gusty winds. Tomorrow we have help coming in the form of a daughter that is better at bending and planting than we are and she likes to eat. If you work here the deal is you get to eat.... We have the land, the seed, the fertilizer, the tiller, the ground covers, and those that use it so we can eat can eat from the larder grown here too. The we have favorite charities that get the overflow.

Progress in my gardening adventures so far this year:

1. All of the garlic and onion sets I planted last year are popping up and growing quickly. I think I planted about 40 of each!

2. I planted 2 trays of seeds to start under the grow lights in my basement. It's about half and half of tomatoes and peppers, with a few tomatillos and ground cherries in the mix.

3. I got a great deal on some bare root strawberries on Etsy. Who knew there were so many plants for sale on there! I potted them up so they get get some foliage, and they'll go in the ground next month. Some are ever-bearing and some are June-bearing.

4: Up next are some additional seed starts - flowers and herbs. I will do some under the lights and some in milk cartons outside. Once this weather improves I will go out and plant some cool weather stuff like lettuce, radishes, and peas.

This weather is back to being yucky, but starting seeds indoors makes me feel better. :)

We got about 150 total plants in the ground today on the woven ground cover and weed block. It's the first time we have done this. We planted 2 varieties of orange cauliflower, butter stem broccoli, romaine, and a lot of cabbage. We are going to work on a process of making cabbage rolls that can be vacuum sealed and frozen. We really like them and we do need a way to process cabbage besides sauerkraut.
