Your 2026 Garden

I feel for the rural areas. They will be hurting & if they're on well water they could run out. I was talking on the phone to a friend in
W WA. I mentioned I could tell it had been raining. She said, Oh no. I said that was a good thing here. So little moisture this year. We need some ground water. Besides I cheat & I see my tulips are just poking up; leaves about 3-4 inches high. Irrigation probably won't get turned on until June, and they don't want us using house water for outside plants.
What about gray water? I have my washing machine set up to water a certain flower bed and the drain pipes from my heat pump goes into a rain barrel.

Here in the valley we have automatic irrigation that is fed from canals that run through town. Just last year they opened up the gray water treatment facility. The treated water feeds into the canals now. Hopefully it will be enough for us here. The canals have run low before.
The outlying farms in rural areas are mostly on wells or pumps from creeks. Also, the reservoirs are low, which will be a real issue when wildfires occur.

What about rain barrels?

I have four set up to catch rain, about 220 gallons on standby.

We don't get rain very often here & usually not much. It wouldn't put much in the barrels & it would just dry out right away. We had one when we lived in
W WA. Lots of rain there though. This lower part of Idaho is considered a high desert. Rain is scarce.

Well, I planted some sweet potatoes, some ginger. Then I was ready to direct seed some peas and green beans but when I went out to the raised garden beds 3 out of the currently available 5 beds had chickens half buried in it…. How often do I need to water them and will I get chicks??? :lau

I guess the peas and beans will have to wait a bit and the raised beds need fencing

The best time to thin seedlings is when you're already overwhelmed because that resistant feeling you get not wanting to pull perfectly good seedlings, completely disappears and you're ready to just throw them all in the trash 😂

Aggressively thinned! Gonna have to put alot of plants at the road stand for sale when the thaw comes 😂 also you'll all be proud of me, everything has LABELS lol
