With a taller coop it would have also allowed for a door that slides up and not a pop door. Want the horizontal door so that when we up grade to an automatic door we could just buy one (so my husband gets to customize an auto door). Would also have more of an over hang with the roof to keep water off the neasting box. So far no leaks but we think the roofing that we put on it will crack from opening the nest box to collect eggs
kids helped paint it and had a blast still need some touch ups :)

Your coop looks great! Thanks for sharing some pics (I'm a visual learner, for sure!). It's wonderful you have such an able-bodied hubs to help put your plan to action :hugs

Thanks, I love tutorials with lots of pics,
as I am a 'visual learner' too and a drafter by trade.
I have learned tons on various subjects via pictorials.
The old idiom 'a picture is worth thousand words' is no joke.
 
Something I would do different has come up in the last few days- I'm using deep litter I the run again with this flock and have some very vigorous diggers this round. Because I opted to use poultry netting for the run destroying they fling up against the wire is able to pretty well go right on through to the other side. It never really bothered me with the last setup because that was out in the far corner of the horse pasture and anything that they kicked out (less enthusiastic diggers as they spent less time confined) was a non issue since it just worked in to the area around the run.
Anyway, now it's more of an issue because the litter is ending up more in the yard than in the run, and that does no good for either one. So, this weekend, we'll be putting up 1/4 x1/4 hardware cloth around the entire bottom section of the run. It'll keep the litter in and add security to the run, so win/win....but sure would have been easier to do before all the trim work and stuff was done......hindsight!
