Dominiques!!!

We have two, plus two SLWs, one GLW, and one Black Australorp. Our Dominiques are by far the most friendly and calm. Plus I think they are the prettiest. I say I love chickens, but mostly I just like the others and it's the Dominiques that I love.

I love them all, but perhaps EE's and bantam buff brahmas the best. EE's are tough and cold-hardy, lay pretty eggs, and lay pretty well. I love the fact that they come in all different colors and patterns, you never know what you're getting, and so enjoy the suspense as they mature.

On the other hand, bantam buff brahmas are the cutest thing's I've ever set eyes on. They're even decent layers, but don't lay as well as EE's. And they are quite winter hardy.

For Personality, I have to say my Maran girls and my little Hamburg pullet. Compared to them, my red stars are duds (funny themselves, curious, friendly... but they don't play like the others do) and they make my Golden Lakenvelder look like a flighty lunatic. If it wasn't for her being raised with the Marans, she would have tried to go into the wild I'm sure.

I had everyone out yesterday, and the Splash Maran was getting picked on by the ducks. The ducks throw their head over the back of the chickens and nibble at them. She calmly walked off, like whatever. Everyone else panics and shoots up into the air. She's just like... "stupid ducks" and goes about her business. She'll hang out with the babies and be sweet to them too, not trying to chase them around and assert herself. She doesn't care where she falls in the pecking order.

My favourite it Buff Sussex. I have one pullet who calls out when she hears someone then waits to be patted/stroked or picked up. She is a beautiful attention seeker who is very affectionate.
