Hello all!
Hope everyone is happy and doing well! 👍 🙂

A question I have been wanting to ask on here for a while is, What was YOUR first poultry you owned and how old were you when you entered the world of poultry keeping?
I started when I was about 10 I guess. My parents got me a smallish coop and run for my birthday and shortly after that we got 2 Rhode Island Red/Light Sussex hens and 2 Black Rocks. They were my best birthday present ever!
Ever since that day, poultry (chickens especially) have been a huge part of my life and have given me hours of entertainment and something to do when I'm feeling down.

Over the years I've kept numerous breeds of chicken and other types of poultry which has been an exciting journey!

I would LOVE to hear your stories of your first step into what has bought you here today!

P.s staff, if this is in the wrong section then please feel free to move it.

Cool!
Mine was 40 chicks, for Easter, when I was 4 years old. My parents wanted to be more self-sufficient, and to put some birds in the freezer. They were my sister's and my responsibility to care for though. That started it all, lol!
The story is told better in my interview though.

The very first poultry I’ve ever had was a duck named Pirate who had only one leg. I loved him to death. My first chickens I got when I was 6, that was years ago. They were buff Orpingtons, Delawares and a barred rock.

We started with chicks a 3 years ago, a RIR, (who sadly passed today after over a week of care) named Ponyo, a Barred Rock named Tilly, (again, passed away, was attacked by a hawk), Yukie, a Ameracuana, Saoirse, a Welsummer, (also passed in a predator attack) Emily, a buff Orpington, Jasmine, a Black Australorp. Now we will have a total of 13 chickens. 🙂

How on earth did he cope with just 1 leg? Could he walk/Hop? Surely he would have just gone round in circles when he paddled:lol:
