YES! I got rid of all my roosters and I get SOOOOOOO many questions like well your not going to get any eggs without a rooster?! and I always compare it to a women's period.

There are a lot of questions about parasites and the best way to detect and treat them. I was hoping to answer someone's question by providing a link in the learning center instead to going through the a whole long answer. The only thing in the learning center that I found was on mites under predators.

Hello! I am new here and just wanted to say "hi" and ask a question. We just got two Barred Rock hens (almost a year old). We are raising them in the backyard and bought a wonderful, albeit expensive, coop with attached run that can be wheeled around the yard. The chickens are doing very well. We get 2 eggs a day from them- one from each. They started laying as soon as we got them!

Anyway, I had a question. We'd like to buy a heated waterer, but we're not sure what type is best. I've searched on the net and found that the plastic kind got many bad reviews. We need something that will keep the water from freezing in the Winter.

Would appreciate any feedback for where to find one...

Very excited about this forum! What a great place to share information/advice.

I was wondering what does a hen do when the temp. outside is 103 or 4 what happens to the eggs, do they die cause they are to hot?
I have read where people put milk jugs with ice in them around their pens to help keep birds cooler would you do that around a setting hen?

My friend who had chickens uses a metal heater thats sort of like a stand under her metal waterer. It works well, too.

I'd really like to see a whole Section on Broodiness. I think a lot of new chicken owner's don't really understand what broodiness is, and how exactly to handle it. I know this was a source of confusion for me. I had many questions, "Do I take their eggs anyway?" (if I don't want them hatched), how long are they broody? Should I separate them? What if they're broody and I don't want chicks? What should I do then? Things like that. I'd love to see a section devoted to Broody issues.
