Your Thoughts on Belly-Button Piercings

Quote:
Me personally I don't like them. To each their own. But you stated... "Are we asking "what do you think of men with facial hair?" no..." That's not a good analogy because facial hair on men is 100% natural. A belly piercing is not.

Neither is ear piercing but no one would call that sleazy. I guess the point is, society and cultures have perceptions about what is correct behavior. Norms are set through these societial 'rules' but stepping back from that, one has to question 'why?' Why is one thing acceptable and another not. We are not talking about things like murder, theft, adultery (though some cultures...) but simple things. There was a time that if a woman showed her ankle she was branded as 'loose'. and shunned in polite society. Now we have moms running around in shorts and flipflops. My Great Great Granny would be scandalized.

In some cultures even now, a married woman without her head covered is in danger of being stoned by her relatives for ' dishonoring them'.
Culture and behavior is a sticky wicket indeed.... I preach tolerance whenever possible. If it isn't hurting someone, who am I to say what someone does to their own body?

Hey, don't dis my tatts. Same thing as a woman wearing make-up, only permanent.

I have NEVER seen a tattoo I didn't hate. ESPECIALLY on older women. Sexy is not covered in INK!

Just be prepared to be judged by a society who, for the most part, knows better than to have their body permanently SCARRED!

In the 1930's Katharine Hepburn wore pants --- PANTS --- and it was considered scandalous....

Every generation needs to push their envelop so that they can learn, grow, and find themselves.
I think belly button rings have been around for a while now, they will either stay and become
normal modes of expression like WOMEN WEARING PANTS, or they will phase out like the mullet
and shoulder pads (which actually are making a come back).

What this thread demonstrated to me is how people with seemingly such different backgrounds,
social/ political / artistic / moral views can come together and celebrate something they all LOVE

CHICKENS!!!

I am a self described "feminist-pinko-commie-liberal". I believe in freedom of expression for Americans.
I don't believe ANYONE should be oppressed for their social, political, or religious lifestyles.

Yes, I believe in reproductive rights for women, abolishing the death penalty, nationally legalizing same sex marriage,
ending transgendered discrimination, nationalized healthcare for all Americans and allowing gay and lesbian Americans to openly
serve in the military.

I know my political views are polar opposites of others on this site BUT
WE ALL HAVE A COMMON BOND WITH OUR PASSION FOR RAISING CHICKENS! We are members of this sight to share funny
amusing and sometimes sad chicken stories. I joined because I am a first time chicken owner and found that the
advice on this site is invaluable... I can learn so much for other's experiences.

Maybe we should keep these posts to just chicken talk???

I do love America!!!

I really don't care what people think of me, as long as I like myself,

the other opinions don't matter.

I have 16 tatts & every one has a meaning in my life.

If someone knew how to read them, they would know alot about my history.

I believe, however, that we have the opportunity to speak plainly about our opinions on certain subjects (given they are allowed and safe), if we keep this talk appropriate. Diversity is what makes us...well...us!

PorterinCT - AMEN, Sister! birdaholic - AMEN, Brother!
Well behaved women rarely make history, as I've heard. What I do with my body is between me and my Maker. If society judges then all I have to say to that is 'judge not....'

Now lets talk about chickens!

I love threads like these. I love hearing everyone's opinions. Diversity is wonderful.

Having a belly piercing does not make someone trashy...
They're only trashy if the person wearing them is a trashy person...
I'm sure they were trashy before they got pierced..and they'll still be trashy when the piercing comes out...

And if you have your ears pierced.. you cant say one word about a belly button piercing.... there is no difference.
