I would love to have some eggs out of Dutch, just as soon as we get settled into our new place and I either buy my first incubator or one of my current hens goes broody. I bought a couple of silly silkies for just that purpose!

It probably won't be until next Spring, though, as we won't close on our new house (finally springing for a place on 5 acres, yay!!!) until the end of October and will have to settle in and build the new chick-mahal.

I will still keep my fingers crossed that Zane someday recovers enough to take his rightful place with the ladies. He's definitely a sweet, brave rooster!

Thanks! We are really excited to finally be moving out of the suburbs and starting our very own little funny farm.

We have been keeping chickens in our backyard, but staying would mean no roosters, and I actually like the sound of them crowing.

Also, I can finally get some goats, a couple of horses, maybe some honey bees, geese, guineas, ducks....you get the idea!

Another short update on Zane: we did the therapy today and used a straight pin to test the feeling in his leg and foot. There is no feeling in the toes at all nor the front of the foot pad just behind the toes. Toward the back of the pad and up the leg, there is more feeling, but he doesn't jump when we stick that one like he does when we stick the good leg. We're still going to do stretching exercises (and it hurts him like most physical therapy does) and see if he can at least put the foot on the ground again some day soon.
Cyanne, you just let me know when you're ready. And congrats on the new place!

Panda is beautiful! Cuckoo pattern to boot too. Sounds like she will be an EE layer if she gets her momma's blue egg trait. Or Olive egger!

Well, the infection being knocked out was the very least we needed to do to start him on the road to recovery. Till then, his life was really in danger. I still have no idea if we can get any movement or feeling back in his foot or if he'll ever really be able to walk, but we'll certainly try. And if we fail, at least we did everything we could for him.
