OK, now that's going just a little too dang far!! Holy Moly!! If I even suggested that, both the husband and the dog would take exception to the idea I'm sure!

eh dogs and husbands can be replaced.

My girls get whatever I want to give them and Thor gets anything he wants.

I can just see that conversation now:

Oh Denny! I have it on good authority from Cetawin that you can be replaced! Jasper! That goes for you too!!

Aw heck! They're both pretty good boys! I think I'll keep 'em around for awhile longer yet.

Besides, how would I be able to finish building this house all by myself!?

I'm kind of tough, but I'm not that tough!

Dangit! That's where I blew it! Guess I didn't train him as well as I thought...the man is convinced he can walk on water...but then that's to be expected of a retired USCG Chief!

Brings to mind that old joke...What's the difference between a Chief and God? God doesn't think he's a Chief!

Well, Olivia, my sweet little poufy headed hen who raised Mace brilliantly, may not be long for this world. After two rounds of antibiotics and strong doses at that, her abdomen is full and tight. She followed me and Tom around today, asking to be picked up, not something she ever does, though she will visit by sitting on my knee when I'm out on the lawnchair. She later came up the steps, scratched on my knee to be picked up when I was sitting in the sun, and so me and my Olivia sat together in the sunshine for over 30 minutes until I had to put her down to attend to something else. Every once in awhile, she'd cock her head and look up into my face with her pretty soulful brown eyes. I think she knows.

I lost her sister, Kate, recently, and if Livvie goes, little Tux, the #3 Poufy Head Sister will be alone.

LMAO Serrin...good one.

Cyn, dang it I am sorry. I shall pray that her body heals quickly or that she has a quick peaceful passing. Preferring that her body heals.

Maybe keep her in with you? I know the doggie would have a fit but she would probably feel better being close to you.

I think it would stress Livvie to be inside rather than on the roost beside her sister, so unless she gets to be bad off, I think it's best to let her continue her normal routines. The nights are a bit warmer now.

Oh, I do, too! Livvie is just the most precious little hen you've ever seen. These three sisters were the best accident we've ever had and I miss Kate and love little Tux, but Livvie raised babies and is the best broody you can imagine. I'm glad I took the time to sit with her in the sunshine today.

Now, I'm worried about Kira, who keeps sitting in the nest and not producing an egg. Stranger still, she doesn't even peck at me or screech when I reach in to check under her--she's one of those who hates to be bothered on the nest usually. She didn't look like she felt good today and tonight, she's back in a nest. Amazing that folks like me who take the best care of my birds has one thing after another happen to them (always something that is unpreventable and usually non-fixable) and some who just feed them whatever and dont really seem to pay them much attention rarely seem to have a problem; or maybe they just don't notice till one drops dead. Was talking about that very thing with a long time chicken breeder the other night who is a member here and he said that, too. <<<sigh>>>
