Zane Made REAL Progress (New Pics Pg 99)!RIP Lorelei...

Seems I'm in the boonies in no man's land. Got some really dead tomato plants yesterday that I ordered weeks ago from Burpee. Took 8 days UPS to get here. They spent a day in Jackson and two days in Natchez. Jackson is 2 1/2 hours away and Natchez is 30 miles away.

Mailed a letter the other day to a local P.O. box which meant I had to take it to the P.O.. Asked if they just went and put it in person's box and they said "No - all local P.O. mail must first be shipped to Jackson and then back again - takes 3 days".

I've been following Zane's story but unable to say anything being new to chickens until I realized that a few years ago I found a small dog with a long back and he ran funny, so I took him to the local chiropractor and asked if he might try helping the dog before I rehomed him? He used this little fat pen like thing that applied a quick pressure to a pressure point and it did help the dog. Do you have a chiropractor where you live? Ours since left town but he never charged for helping the dog (who now has a home with a fenced yard in another town). The newest chiropractor wouldn't do such a thing, but there are some great people out there...hoping Zane recovers, with all my heart. Cheryl

Cyn, if you get a plastic cricket tube (made for fisherman), they are made to let out only 1 cricket at a time. You line up the inner opening with the outer opening. Doesn't take long for a smart chicken to figure that out, and then they nab 'em as quick as the little crickets emerge from the hole!

Yep, I use those. When I really want a good laugh, or to be mean, that's what I do. Just put it in chicken yard with a bunch of chickens around it and see who gets the one lone cricket. It's every girl for herself and the game of "cricket" begins. But since I don't want my chickens to ever start fighting amongst themselves, I usually just open the lid and dump them all out. They are gone before they can hit the ground.

We first did it to see who would figure out the hole thing first. It was my Ms P. And many crickets survived since the others chased P rather than watch the cricket tube. We finally dumped them out, too.

Here's the morning report on Zane. After we got back from our grocery trip, I took some wet catfood (not the usual thing I allow due to salt content, but this is an emergency) for the protein and put his antibiotic in it. He did eat it, but his face looks pale today and he's panting more than he was before. We put him in the garden to sunbathe and when we decided it was getting too hot for him and picked him up, we were examining his left hock joint, which is definitely swollen and has a red streak, what I'd say is a sign of an infection, exactly what Stacey's vet said was a possibility. As we were examining him, we kept hearing pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop... It was like one huge chiropractic manipulation of his spine. Hopefully, it will help the situation. We'll check on him later and let you know. He isn't quite as perky today as he was yesterday, it seems to me and his color isn't as good.
The feedstore was out of mealworms-I have to go to town the other direction and maybe that feedstore will have them.
