I'm not sure what to say about Zane. He lays down most of the day and leans to one side or the other. He'll eat eggs and oatmeal when I hold the bowl and encourage him to eat. He on occasion will stand up, but hangs his wings and tail down like they are just too heavy to hold up. His color is good and his eyes are bright, but I just am at a loss as to what to do except continue vitamins in his water, aspirin for the pain he must be having, and try to keep him eating and away from anything that will stress him out. Thanks for asking about my Zaners. We are so upset right now about the thought of losing him.

Oh boy...
More prayers and hugs for Zane and you...
Penny's having a down day, but the weather's dark and grey and it's gonna rain...
I got her to eat some scrambled eggs...but she's having nothing to do with the handfeeding formula...just a couple of spoonsful...
We can only keep on doing what we're doing, Cyn...They'll get well or they won't...but we'll keeping going for their sakes...

You are right, S.C. Remember when I almost lost Lorelei last summer when she went into that hard molt, lost lots of weight and had serious egg issues? All that heat stress was a factor as well. I just found her on the roost alone after everyone was outside. She is beautiful, plump and bright-eyed, though, nothing like last summer, and heat is not a factor right now. She is the absolute picture of health! Being Lacy's "sister", though, I'm hoping she isn't having an internal egg issue like Lacy died of recently. They came from the same Ideal shipment two and a half years ago. I know that isn't terribly old for a chicken and they get the best of everything here so all I can think is that its perhaps something she's genetically predisposed to. So, now I need to worry about Lorelei again, in addition to Zane, who hasn't stood up today, and broody Olivia.

Well, we're trying something to perk up his mood, if not his body. We put him in the pet carrier and put him in the bsmt bathroom where the newly hatched chicks are. He can hear and see them and was fascinated with the activity. I also gave him their starter crumble, which he seemed to really like and is eating. Cant hurt, might help. We'll see. He still hasn't tried to stand up today at all, poor thing. If he cant stand, there is only one avenue to take, sadly, but we'll give him more time before we go down that one.
