Both the males and females are sterile.

One other note: there are several types of zebra- split into 3 family groups- Plains zebras, Mountian Zebras & Grevys. Breeding 2 types from the same family results in a cross; example: breeding a GRANTS ZEBRA with a DAMARRA ZEBRA, which are both Plains zebra- the baby is a cross and able to reproduce. BUT breeding 2 different family types together results in a infertile hybrids offspring.
