Zilla the Pigeon...*new questions & pics*

Your bird looks like a homer or roller to me. The earliest I wean these birds is 28 days old. That's kinda early for them, when being raised by the parents, but being hand raised 28 to 31 days old is average. I have been breeding and raising pigeons for about 6 years now,(and I'm only 15!) It happens a lot where there is a day diffrence in the hatch date of nestmates and the littler one dies, it happens to me all the time. Mashed up chicken pellets/mash with warm water is what I would feed.
Good luck with the little guy, your doing a great job!

My son says, thanks!

Thanks for the info. Wish I could get a good color pic of the pigeon. Its a smokey blue gray color. Wing feathers are really filling in now and tail feathers are getting longer. Body feathers are slower to come in but a few on its back are light gray. I will have to look up both of those pigeons and see if I can find one it looks like.

From looking at the pictures your bird looks like a blue check. They are pretty birds, once feathered out. When they are little they have a face only a mother could love.

My lone little baby pigeon is growing up, s/he should be about 28 days old now.

It has grown enough to run out of the cage at feeding time and then run back in when its had enough (so cute). I have changed its feeding mixture a bit...some bird formula, a little sand, some chick starter and some seeds, mixed with water just thin enough to slide off the spoon. I leave water and seeds in its cage at all times and have seen it pecking at the seeds, but not water. Is a chick waterer ok, or do pigeons need something deeper to get the beaks into? Any idea when I can totally wean it and how I do that?

Here are pics from this morning of the little creature, now named Zilla (since its screeching and the way it flaps its wings reminds me of Godzilla or something out of one of those old movies lol).

Zilla -4 weeks old

Thanks!!

Ohh, ok, I will find something different to use as a waterer then. I had a feeling his beak was too long to get much from that chick waterer.

My step son knocked a baby pigeon out of its nest and he brought it home. This was last spring. We put it in with the chicks I had hatched out and a baby pheasant. I feed all of them chick starter. The pigeon grew up and we set it free. It was an enjoyable experience. Looks like you have enjoyed your experience!!
