Zip ties as leg bands

Davaroo, I just like to tell them apart so that I can watch for any inconsistencies in their behavior. I would much rather be proactive than reactive to any issues that may occur. Not to mention that my daughter has named them all! and can't tell who is who. The lighter or hot iron may be alittle tough since the band will be around a chickens leg at the time!

I get mine at lowe's and tractor supply i use them for my pigeon and dove pairs.
They all get matching bracelets that way i know who belongs with who.
Then i tag their babys with the same color so i know which parents they come from.
I love these they are less expensive than some bands and you don't have to order them.

no colored velcro here, and coloring the white ones with marker didnt work...any other ideas? our tractor supply didnt have colored ones. I really like that zip tie idea if only they werent all one color!

we found them at the Dollar tree !!! An assortment of about 100 came in a pck all different colors for only a buck !!!

www.Cabletiesandmore.com has a great selection of zip ties... in several sizes and 4-5 different colors and the price is reasonable (100 for $1.40).

I get mine at Walgreens or Ace hardware and what i like about these verse some of the others is that they are removeable you don't need to cut them off. I use them withquail as well

Maybe this is a stupid question, but why can't you just do the thing where you put a dot of food dye on their head? You didn't say how old yours are, if they were chicks or pullets. If they're chicks, then you should start to see their different personalities or traits and know them that way as they grow, until then food coloring dots!

why not just get plastic bands ?

You can also mark them by nipping out the section between their toes when they are small.
Ive never tried it, I just know you can.
But the zip-ties are a lot more colorful.
